The
Irish wolfhound is one of the most dignified and aristocratic breeds
having the reputation of being a gentle giant. They are different from
any other breed and once having lived with it seldom will anybody ever
choose to live with another breed.
We fell in love with them in 1992 and ever since they became the love of our life.
When
we acquired our first wolfhounds we embarked on a difficult road
because of careless breeding and genetic diseases took toil on our
heart, as we had to lay them to rest in their young age. We have been
desperate. We loved the breed and no longer could live without them.
Our discouragement forced us instead of giving up to start studying
healthy bloodline and canine genetics and our decision came to embark
on the idea of breeding healthy hounds.
After
a lot of thinking and doing our homework thoroughly, we have imported
one male and two bitches from Canada from Dunhill Kennels owned by
Jörgen C. van Zsidy and we are grateful to him for all the guidance,
help and literature which he provided us with at the time of the
beginning of our breeding program. The Dunhill Irish wolfhounds became
the foundation of the Glor Na Gael bloodline.
Afterawhile, as our population grew in our kennel, we decided to sell our
house with a large lot in town and to buy a farm with a few acres for
the hound to run and to play on and to build a spacious kennel but
today if you want to have a quiet moment you will have to spend it in
the empty kennel because all our hounds are living in the house and as
they are scattered everywhere, on the floor, in the beds and on the
sofas we wish you luck to find a place to sit. They own the house and
we are just tolerated by them.
For us disposition is as important as genetic soundness and longevity. Our
bloodline is known for their sweetness. Our puppies are born and grow
up with us in the house and they are socialized at a very early age.
We
do test our dogs on a regular base for all genetic diseases since we
believe that responsibility of the breed rests on the shoulder of the
breeder. A careful breeding is a must with us and we don't breed our
bitches before they are matured at the age of 3 years and our studs are
carefully selected to the appropriate bitch. We only breed when we want
to keep a puppy for the continuation of our bloodline.
Currently our wolfhound family consists of the 12 dogs of different ages.
Among
them are very numerous Best in Show winners, National and international
champions. Some Champions of Champions, Best Bitch of the World Show in
2006, Dog of the year of 2004, one of our male and bitch won the best
male and female in Dounaschingen, Germany in the European Title, one of
our male being the European winner and many other numerous winnings
which are to long to list. Please refer to our show section for show
results on our website for additional information and pictures. Soon we
will have to build another house the way it is going only for the
winning trophies.
Our
hounds are subjects of many television shows and interviews and they
appear periodically in different national and international dog reviews
and newspapers with their international reputation.
We
do follow up the puppies, which we place, on a regular basis and
needles to say how careful we are to whose hand we are entrusting our
puppies.
Attila Schlosser, our handler is doing an excellent job showing some of our dogs.
We do hope you will enjoy your visit with us on our website and we want to remind everybody that a dog is a lifetime commitment.
